Dr. Myers is a graduate of Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, PA, with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. He also has a Master of Divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary and is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church. He has served numerous churches for 26 years throughout South Georgia and North Florida. He received a Master of Arts in counseling from Regent University.
While pursuing his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Counseling and Counselor Education at the University of Florida, he successfully defended, in the spring of 2021, his doctoral dissertation entitled “Empowering Survivors to Speak Their Truth: An Exploration of Counselors’ Lived Experiences of Providing Therapy with Adult Male Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse.” He is licensed as a Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern in Florida and as an Associate Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia. Dr. Myers is also a nationally certified counselor (NCC) and a board-certified telemental health provider (BC-TMH).
Besides his vast pastoral experience, he has experience counseling adolescents at an in-patient residence for underserved youth, individuals and couples in a private counseling practice, and university students at a large university counseling center. He has also worked at an in-patient mental health treatment center at a large regional hospital. Dr. Myers’ research interests include adult male survivors of childhood sexual abuse and trauma, animal-assisted therapy, Christian spirituality in counseling, and grief counseling.
